Adulting Lessons on the Other Side of the Table

While I was writing my last post in a Starbucks in Bloomfields, I overheard a conversation of two friends in their mid to late 20’s in which they are discussing adulting topics like their career, growth and happiness.

I was thinking  “Malapit na ako doon” (I am nearly on that stage of life). I am already in my 20’s nearly graduating from college and sooner or later I would be the one discussing these stuff with my friends. I would like to discuss the things I overheard in this Blog.

*I know it isn’t right to eavesdrop on someone’s private conversation, but their conversation gave me an insight or two on adulting

CAREER

One of the topics I overheard is the feeling of “stagnation”.  One of their friend was “bored” or doesn’t really feel that they were growing on their current job.

They were recommending to find a new job that would let their friend explore more career choice, since their friend is an adventurous type.

I was imagining myself in their friends’ shoes. Wherein I am stuck in a career where it feels repetitive, stagnant, doesn’t contribute to my long-term plans and personal growth. I am afraid to be in that situation, but as I don’t take action to achieve my dream career/job, it will be inevitable to happen.

I want a job where I am not stuck in an office chair 6-7 hours a day, a job where I manage my own time, where I can grow, and of course most importantly, where there is A LOT OF MONEY hehe.

I think being a content creator is one of the jobs that would fit this description. I could handle my own time. I am my own boss. I decided what projects to pursue and many more.

*these are the things I assumed to be a content creators’ job description, but I know that this isn’t the case for most of them

This career choice, isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Not only it is really hard to standout in the social media space and succeed as a full time creator but there are a lot of cons on this career path such as your loss of privacy, the high chance of being cancelled and many more! (I would like to discuss this to another blog post)

Self-help or Self-improvement

It makes me grateful to be ahead in this aspect. I’ve learned of self-growth since I was a 16 to 17 years old.

I have consumed many content  or been aware of the books in this genre. I know how to be better and how to be the best version of myself.

What’s holding me back you may ask? It is not taking ACTION! Because self-help is much easier than done. It needs consistent effort. To be better, you need to show up and do things you should do, even if you don’t want to. It’s a mind-game. You need to remove bad habits and most importantly you will need God.

Without God guiding us, we couldn’t be consistent, we couldn’t defend ourselves from temptations and from sin.

I am ahead of the curve, just take action and you will achieve greater heights you never had before.
